Turf Richmond

Rollaturf is our turf company based in Middleton Tyas, North Yorkshire. We supply and deliver top quality turf together with a top quality service. We deliver to the Richmond area (all DL postcodes) all year round, six days a week.

We use Moffatt trucks which have a detachable forklift for easier access to properties and allows us to get your turf closer to where you may require it and our drivers are more than helpful when delivering.

If you place your order prior to 3.00pm the day before you require delivery, generally we will be able to deliver it the following day. You will be given a time slot the evening before delivery.

Our turf is cut in 1 square metre rolls (i.e. 40cm wide by 250cm long) and delivered on pallets. One full pallet contains 68sqm (68 rolls) of turf and weighs approximately 1.2 tonnes. The turf is 15mm in depth which information you may require if you are abutting it to i.e. paving or a kerb, in order to attain a flush finish.

We harvest the turf to order the day before delivery in order that it arrives to you, our customer, in as good a condition as it has left us. We would advise you to lay the turf as soon after receipt as possible particularly in hot weather. However, in the Autumn/Winter months it can be left unrolled for up to two days but must be kept moist. If the weather is very hot, we may harvest your turf the morning of delivery to ensure you are getting the best quality turf we can provide.

We use a seed mixture of a fine fescue grass together with a rye grass which promotes a hard wearing, fine looking turf, excellent for your domestic use and professional gardeners for lawn/verges or amenity areas.

Orders can be made online through our website or you could speak to Wendy or Emma in our office who will be happy to take your order and payment by card if you call 01325 339259. We also accept cash on delivery although we cannot leave the turf if there is no-one available to receive it and make the payment.

Should you require topsoil or fertiliser, please refer to the details on this site.

Topsoil - Richmond

We provide a screened dry topsoil in 1 tonne bulk bags but we can supply larger amounts, up to 20 tonnes, in loose bulk loads. Our bulk bags are delivered with our Moffatt wagon which has a detachable forklift and allows us to gain closer access to the property. The forklift is approximately the width of a car, therefore, if access is tight, this is how you can judge whether access is possible or not. If you are unsure whether delivery will be possible, please give us a call.

Our product is screened virgin topsoil which means that the soil has been taken directly from a site which was once a field and is of a much superior quality than that of recycled topsoil which many companies are likely to sell. Please consider this when purchasing your topsoil as recycled topsoil may be full of stones and other debris.

In order that you receive a dry product, we store our soil inside and screen it immediately prior to delivery, therefore, allowing it to be much easier to work with. This being most important if you need to use it for turfing when raking it thinly to achieve a good level finish.

The bulk bags we use hold 0.7 cubic meters and weigh a metric tonne. Please be aware that other companies often use bags which only contain approximately 800kg.

As an approximation, one bag of our soil will provide coverage for 30sqm with a depth of 1 inch. Should you require any assistance with your calculations, please call us on 01325 339259.

Regularly, in order for our product to meet with British Standard 3882, we send away samples to be checked to ensure that they can be used for the purposes of turfing and planting. We can advise that our soil is excellent for the use in raised beds and we have customers who have been delighted with the results.

We recommend also that if you are trying to improve the quality of your original soil then we can provide you with a soil conditioner which you just dig into it and this will improve the fertility and consistency of your soil. Please see our page on soil conditioner.
